Can you help build a new track at Douglas?

If you can spare some time over the next week or so, even during your next ride, take a crack at sculpting a new trail. We've supplied a machine dug bench that starts climbing near the Iron Bark Hub (check the Douglas Trail Map), heads upward above Beefwood and joins halfway up Hammerhead. Yep it's stage 1 of the new climbing trail at Douglas and if you're keen to help finish the trail off and make it ready for riding then head up the hill and pick up one of the tools left on the side of the track.
At this stage we're about 50m from the bottom of the trail (that's where you'll find the tools) and we're working downwards.
What to do: take a quick walk up past the tools and check out the work done previously and just replicate. Briefly we want you to:
- trim the back slope i.e. put a lean into dirt over hanging the track
- smooth the tread i.e. rake a slight out slope on the track and flatten out the bumps; and
- clear the down slope i.e. remove and debris on the down side of the hill so water can shed off the side of track and not along the track itself.
Here's some of the work that's gone on already:

There's no set day for this working bee, just head up whenever you have time. If you'd like to join some friendly folks, watch this forum thread when some good sorts post up when they're next going up for a dig.
Once we've completed Stage 1 of this new climbing trail we've got another exciting small project in store for you trail diggers. It joins Redtail Black and Easy Street. Stay tuned for this next wet season project.
