New Berm on Whiptail
Expertly lead by trail flow guru Darren "Dags" Eckford, a small crew skipped a morning ride to install a new bermed corner on Whiptail. With the green light from Rockwheelers' Trail Building Committee and some on site advice from a guru on IMBA trail building principles, Haydn Tilley, the team knocked the job over in only a few hours.
The previous corner, a Rolling Crown Switchback, required riders to slow suddenly after a fast downhill series of sweeping turns and drop down. Result...heavy skid lines and erosion rutts on the downslope before the RCS. The new corner will help riders moderate their slowing by turning them slighly back up slope and maintain momentum as they then tuck into and shoot out of the berm.
Even though the RCS is didn't fit on that section of Whiptail, we just can't put to waste what was a well contructed feature lifted from the IMBA text books. It will be incorporated in a future, new neighbouring trail. Stay tuned.
So we went from this RCS corner:

via this marking step,

to this bermed left hander after a right hand kicker (as you ride down track):
