Christmas Carollers Night Ride, Tue 20th Dec, 7pm

Our disappointment at the recent cancellation of Townsville Christmas Carols Concert quickly turned to stoic determination within the Rockwheelers club not to let local Christmas Spirits die. It just ain't Christmas if you can't belt out a few carols at the top of your lungs! So we're bringing some holiday cheer and fun to the streets and neighbourhoods of Townsville, Rockwheelers style.

We snagged a bunch of song booklets from the Council's cancelled Christmas concert to help the group of riders sail thru the words of the carols. Although, if you've dared eavesdrop on the showers of our club members recently, you'll have learned that riders have been rehearsing vehemently (often accompanied by howling neighbouring canines, felines and emergency vehicle sirens).

Above all, our chorralling, Barmy Army-esque band of riders hope that you can help prove truth in the simple philosophy - There's safety in numbers.

Please join us on this very special night ride.

Audio Sample: interview and carolling for ABC Radio listeners

Meet at: Riverview Tavern, Douglas

Time: 645pm for ride start at 7pm

Route: subject to change on the night but loosely traversing suburbs of Kirwan, Gulliver and Douglas, focussing on some streets with numerous houses lit up with light displays where we can stop and belt out some Xmas Carols.

Here's a map outline of the course(s):

What to bring: your big loud voice, bicycle lights, snacks and drink for 2-3 hours and some extra thick skin.

What to wear: if you have a Rockwheelers riding jersey, please wear it. We'll also be passing out some club brochures. Otherwise we'd love to see some Santa hats and elf costumes.

Who can come: we've invited the lycra bandits a.k.a. the Roadies from Townsville Cycling Club so I guess that means we'll take anyone ;-). Maybe even some bouncers to keep the masses of frenzied onlookers under control.

Enquiries e.g. song requests :-)=) or RSVP:
