Take care everyone. Yes "Sticks and Stones" is open but this trail is no Easy St; it's a very difficult black diamond trail for riders with advanced skills. There are several features along the 200m stretch that will test even the very experienced riders among us.
Half way along the trail you'll encounter a small rock gap jump. This is the view looking back up trail, so you ride top of shot to bottom.

The key is to decide early on, how will you tackle this technical trail feature. If the gap jump is a bit much, veer left for the B-line. But if you're pumped, swing right after the big boulder to find the lipped, kicker and the start of the A-line, which points you correctly over the rock. Crank a couple times to generate a little extra speed, shift your weight to the rear of the bike and keep your front wheel level, not pointing down and you'll clear the 1 foot gap and find the landing ramp.
Yes there is meant to be a gap so please, don't try filling it in with rocks and earth; you're only mucking up a feature designed for this type of difficult trail and annoying the guys who have to go back and restore it.
A major feature further down the trail is the steep rock face roll down. This is a shot looking up the slope of the hill toward the skinny bridge with rock face roll down to the right.

Before riding it for the first time, stop after the waterfall bridge and plan your route down the rock face. If you haven't got a plan you may baulk mid way down, try to clip out, get sideways and end up very messy. After you've planned your line and speed, think about body height and where you position yourself on the bike. Take care not to have too much weight forward of the bottom bracket, giving you the tendency to tip over front wheel. Check out Haydn staying low, getting all his weight behind the seat & over the back wheel to maximise traction and shifting centre of balance to the rear for greater control and greater chance to clear the obstacle.

If you've got some ideas about how to improve features on Rockwheelers trails, contact the Trail Building Committee chief crewman, Lee Williams or hit the forums to tee up to ride it with a Rockwheelers member.
