Over the next three weeks JCU will be conducting its annual feral animal control works on the Townsville campus as part of their obligation under the Biosecurity Act 2014. This may include feral dogs, cats and pigs, with works being carried out in the vicinity of the JCU fire trails, primarily in bushland to the South and East of campus, and on fire trails behind the residential colleges.
They have engaged an experienced contractor to carry out the works, using industry best practice control methods. No poisons will be used as part of the program.
We request that staff and students please avoid the fire trail areas during this time as buried padded foot traps and firearms may be in use. If you have staff or students that need to work in these areas please consult with the Manager, Environment prior to access. All signage will have contact details included to ensure anyone in the area can contact the contractor as required.
They expect that the control works will be completed by the 30th June at this stage.
