An XC series with only 1 race in 2012?
So far Haydn's put his hand up to coordinate the series and run one of the races. But he's not running them all and nor should he have to. We're a big enough club and have seen the clear and strong support for XC races in recent years that we want to broaden the support that goes into running them. Kids, sweet talk your folks. Contact Haydn Tilley to run one of the races next year and we'll make a series of it.
Message from Haydn:
"At the recent AGM I volunteered for the role of XC race coordinator.
My understanding is that I will coordinate the series races i.e. not the Push, HR8 and DD. Certainly I will assist as required in those events but the primary job is to try to make the XC series at least as successful as last years, which was co-ordinated extremely well by Trevor Clarke. I would like to set our calendar ASAP to help the sponsorship co-ordinator and the Club Executive with their planning.
Hopefully we will have a vehicle to help store and transport all of the race gear by then (this is in the current budget). We have recently purchased a Shipping Container which is located at the velodrome to store most of our resources in.
These events, although much less work than our 3 primary money earners, still require considerable planning so that on the day, work and stress is minimised. As the club has grown, the income stream from the series has really improved as well, so it is an important role. We have our score keepers in place and I now need some volunteer committee members who would like to have a say in what sort of events they would like as well as offer to run at least one event each. My thinking is that if we have 6 people on the committee we can run a minimum of 6 events. If we have 4 , then 4 events, unless someone puts their hand up to do more. Please don't let inexperience stop you, we are all here to help as required.
As most of you are possibly interested in the series and will probably want to race, we will give points equal to first place for the organiser of an event and maybe third place points for a volunteer. This is how Canberra and Forrest run their series so it's worth a try. Any questions?
I think some variety is key to having a successful series and I'm willing to consider all proposals. Time Trials , Hill climbs, Super D's, Enduros are all doable. The usual programme would be to start with the shorter events early in the year and build up the time as the longer events get closer, the weather cools down and rider’s fitness improves."
