Club AGM: We still need a Media Co-ordinator

Words: Darren Eckford,  Photos: Ross Walker

Thursday 17th November saw the Rockwheelers hold the AGM at the Riverside Tavern. A modest group of mostly Cross Country aligned members (where were all the Downhillers???) gathered for what was always going to be an eventful  meeting, with the President, Vice President and Treasurer positions among some up for grabs.

Outgoing President, Rob Saunders gave a very thorough Presidents report, thanking all that offered assistance in the last couple of years. In his report, Rob stated that the year had been a very successful one, with The Paluma Push and Hotrock 8 being the financial mainstays of the club.
Rob singled out Pete Gibson (Paluma Push) and Rob Hunt (Hotrock) for their tremendous efforts as event directors for their respective events.

Nick Verhoven was also credited with recruiting a list of sponsors never before seen at the club. Much of the financial stability of the club was credited to Nick for his tireless efforts.

After numerous false alarms, Rob finally gave up the stage and Greg McLindon tabled the financial report. The report was extremely thorough and well presented, which has become Greg’s trademark.

Eventually, the moment everyone feared arrived, the appointment of new office bearers. Suddenly, there didn’t seem to be too many people prepared to make eye contact, for fear of creating attention to themselves. Everyone except Lee Williams it seemed, who after a little liquid lubrication, was very enthusiastic in his thanks for jobs well done, and suggestions of nominations.  It seems his enthusiasm was not just reserved for the Rockwheelers AGM, with the students at the bar outside getting a taste of Lee’s personality after the meeting. By all reports Lee proved very popular.

With most of the office bearers slowly getting filled, a Mexican standoff developed with the position of President up for grabs, with no one game to blink. Eventually Ian Hutchinson blinked first, and the Rockwheelers had a new President. Well done Ian!!

The meeting was closed with a few positions still vacant, so if someone would like to help Rockwheelers to keep growing from strength to strength, please contact the Club Secretary, Dion Green Rockwheelerssecretary@rockwheelers.com.au
